From drawing to delivered marine components
Custom marine components often require more than a machine shop. A single part may need precision CNC machining, tube bending, welding, carbon fiber processing, surface treatment, inspection planning, and delivery coordination.
DMS Group supports OEMs, boat builders, and marine equipment teams with drawing-based manufacturing. We review your project requirements and help define a practical route from part drawing to finished components.

Start with your component requirements
Whether you are developing a new marine product, replacing an existing part, or preparing a design for repeat production, the starting point is the same: define what the component must do.
A useful RFQ includes the drawing or CAD file, material requirement, quantity, critical dimensions, surface finish, inspection requirements, and target delivery date. If the part will be exposed to saltwater, installed next to another metal, or used in a sealed enclosure, include that information early in the discussion.
This gives DMS the information needed to review the manufacturing route before quotation.
What DMS reviews first
Part geometry, material, tolerance, surface treatment, quantity, inspection requirements, and delivery needs.
One drawing. One coordinated manufacturing route.
Review the drawing
DMS reviews the part geometry, material, critical dimensions, finish, quantity, and application requirements. The goal is to identify the manufacturing steps required before production begins.
Define the production route
Depending on the component, the route may combine CNC machining, fabrication, carbon fiber processing, surface treatment, inspection, and assembly support. For specialized requirements, DMS can coordinate qualified manufacturing resources as part of the project.
Confirm quality and finishing requirements
Material certificates, inspection records, special coating requirements, marking, packaging, and delivery conditions are defined during quotation rather than after production has started.
Produce and deliver
Production follows the approved drawing and agreed project scope, from prototype and validation stages through repeat OEM supply.
Choose the manufacturing capability that fits your part
Precision components
For parts that depend on controlled dimensions, critical interfaces, or complex geometry, DMS supports CNC milling and turning, including 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining.
For suitable critical features, tolerances down to ±0.005 mm can be evaluated. The final capability depends on the part material, geometry, feature location, workholding, finishing process, and inspection requirements.
This route is suited to mounting pads, brackets, housings, flanges, couplings, fittings, adapters, plates, and selected engine or equipment parts.
Fabricated structures
For components that need forming or joining rather than machining alone, DMS supports CNC and hydraulic tube bending, sheet-metal bending, TIG/MIG welding, and metal fabrication.
Typical applications include tube assemblies, equipment frames, structural supports, guards, deck hardware, fabricated covers, and custom mounting systems.
When a project requires certified welding procedures, specific inspection documentation, or defined fabrication standards, DMS can coordinate qualified partner resources according to the agreed project scope.
Lightweight and protected components
DMS supports carbon fiber composite processing, including vacuum-formed components and CNC milling. Carbon fiber may be considered for lightweight panels, covers, instrument housings, supports, and selected structural components.
For hybrid metal-and-composite assemblies, the design should define the required load path, fastening method, bonding method, and corrosion-isolation approach before production.
DMS also supports surface treatment routes for aluminum, stainless steel, and other specified materials, including anodizing, hard anodizing, powder coating, electroless nickel plating, passivation, chromate treatment, electropolishing, sandblasting, and laser marking.
When micron precision matters
Marine assemblies may depend on controlled fits, shaft interfaces, bearing locations, sealing surfaces, and mounting geometry. Small dimensional variation can affect alignment, assembly, sealing performance, or long-term wear.
DMS can evaluate micron-level precision requirements for suitable CNC-milled and turned features. For selected critical dimensions, tolerance targets down to ±0.005 mm can be reviewed against the part drawing and inspection plan.
Precision machining supports dimensional consistency at critical interfaces. It does not replace complete system-level marine engineering, so final performance requirements should be defined by the customer’s engineering team.
Materials and corrosion planning begin before production
There is no single material or finish that is right for every marine component. Saltwater exposure, mechanical load, weight, weldability, dissimilar-metal contact, surface finish, and maintenance requirements all influence the final specification.
DMS supports project requirements involving aluminum alloys such as 5052, 5083, 6061-T6, and 6082; stainless steels including SUS304, SUS316, and SUS316L; and selected titanium, brass, and engineering-plastic materials.
Material certificates can be supplied according to customer requirements and agreed project scope.
For mixed-material assemblies, galvanic corrosion should be considered in the design stage. Where specified, DMS can support DFM review and coordinate non-conductive PEEK or PTFE isolation components, as well as provisions for sacrificial-anode integration. The final corrosion-control strategy should be defined according to the complete assembly and operating environment.
Special requirements? Define them in the RFQ.
Some projects require more than standard machining or finishing. If your component requires any of the following, include the requirement with the drawing:
- IATF 16949-aligned quality processes
- Certified welding procedures or project-specific welding documentation
- Multi-spindle turn-mill or Swiss-type machining
- MIL-PRF-8625 Type III hard-coat anodizing
- Salt-spray-resistant powder coating and defined testing
- IP67/IP68 enclosure or sealing requirements
- Material certificates, CMM inspection, FAI, or full-dimensional reports
- Project-specific mechanical or mechatronics assembly
DMS can coordinate qualified manufacturing and finishing resources to meet the agreed project requirements. The applicable test method, specification, inspection scope, and documentation should be confirmed before production.
Applications for commercial and recreational marine projects
Marine hardware and equipment supports
Custom brackets, mounting pads, deck hardware, fittings, flanges, couplings, and equipment-support components manufactured to drawing-defined requirements.
Propulsion and mechanical assemblies
Selected hubs, shaft couplings, housings, steering components, winch-related hardware, and other machined or fabricated mechanical parts.
Electric marine equipment
Thermal-management plates, battery enclosures, motor housings, mounting structures, and selected lightweight components for electric marine systems.
Marine electronics and sealed enclosures
Housings, heat sinks, covers, bracket assemblies, and project-specific enclosure solutions. For IP67/IP68 requirements, the sealing design, test method, and verification scope must be agreed before production.
Quality and documentation that match your project
DMS Group operates under an ISO 9001 quality management system. Quality planning starts at the quotation stage, when the drawing and purchasing requirements are reviewed.
Depending on the project, DMS can coordinate:
- CMM dimensional inspection
- First Article Inspection documentation
- Full-dimensional inspection reports
- Material certificates
- Surface-finish verification
- Laser marking and serialization
- Packaging and delivery requirements
For projects requiring IATF 16949-aligned processes or additional certification requirements, DMS can coordinate suitable manufacturing resources according to the agreed scope.
Frequently asked questions
What should I send for a marine component quotation?
Send your drawing or CAD file, material requirement, quantity, surface finish, critical dimensions, inspection requirements, and target delivery date. Include details about saltwater exposure, mixed-material contact, sealing needs, or applicable standards where relevant.
What tolerance can DMS support?
For suitable critical features, tolerance targets down to ±0.005 mm can be evaluated through CNC milling or turning. Final tolerance capability depends on the part geometry, material, feature location, workholding, finishing, and inspection method.
Can DMS support certified welding, IATF requirements, or IP-rated enclosure projects?
